CuNi coin specifications:
The two collectors coins — 25 and 50 litas — issued into circulation by the Bank of Lithuania to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Baltic Way depict a tree that is symbolic of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia joining together in a living chain in the Baltic Way. The leaves of the tree are in the colours of the flags of the three Baltic nations. On the reverse of both coins is a map, in the graphic elements of which for the first time the colours of the Republic of Lithuania’s tricolour flag are encoded in heraldic symbols.
On Tuesday, 19 August, Latvijas Banka issued a new 5 euro collector coin dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Baltic Way.
The graphic design of the coin is created by Visvaldis Asaris, and Ligita Franckeviča is the author of the plaster model. The coin has been struck in the Netherlands by Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt. The images on the coin are a braid with ribbons in the colours of national flags of the three Baltic States woven in it and a tree trunk with exposed roots.
Latvijas Banka issues the very first 2 euro coin of special design "Riga – European Capital of Culture 2014". It is legal tender in the Republic of Latvia and the other euro area countries. The coins will be put into circulation just like other circulation money, via banks going to traditional points of coin sale and population. The cashier offices of Latvijas Banka in Riga, Daugavpils and Liepāja will commence selling the coin on Tuesday, 12 August.
