The coins are dedicated to one of the important Orthodox holy days related to the Virgin Mary, the true protectress of all believers. The sense of this holiday is in the idea of protection. In circulation since September 30, 2005.
Obverse:
On the coin obverse there is a composition made of a guelder-rose, plants and a towel. Upon the background of it there is an inscription: 2005, the coin mintage year; in the centre of the composition there is the small State Emblem of Ukraine is depicted, under it there are Hetman's symbols of power and a Cossacks sabre. On its left and right there are conventionalized flowers and birds amidst of which there are inscriptions: УКРАЇНА, 10, ГРИВЕНЬ, as well as Ag 925, designation of metal and its pure weight and the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Reverse:
On the coin reverse there is a multi-figured composition depicting a reception of a newly-married couple by their parents, holding an icon and a weddings round loaf in their hands; above there is the Protection of the Virgin. To the right there is a semicircular inscription: ПОКРОВА.
