225 years of the City of Simferopol

The jubilee coin is dedicated to the capital of the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea,  an administrative and cultural centre, the city of Simferopol (in Greek – city of common good). The city is situated in the Salhir River valley on the natural border between the mountainous and plain Crimea. The city development started in 1784, but a part of the valley where the city is located had been populated from the earliest times. Issued into circulation on June 1, 2009.

Obverse: 
On the coin obverse there is depicted Simferopol’s main railway station being the “visiting card” of the city; above there are: the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine and the legends thereunder:  НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine), 5 ГРИВЕНЬ (5 hryvnias), 2009 and the logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint (on the right).
Reverse: 
On the coin reverseagainst the background of the city development plan of 1768 there are depicted two architectural monuments of the XXth century beginning, the city coat of arms between them and the legends thereunder: 225/РОКІВ (years) within the laurel wreath and СІМФЕРОПОЛЬ (Simferopol) below, bow-shaped.
