On 3 June 2011, the National Bank of Moldova will put into circulation as legal tender and for numismatic purpose, a commemorative coin dedicated to 20th anniversary of its foundation. Thus, it was created a new series – “Historical events”, along with the existing commemorative coins series: “Alley of classics from the public garden”, “Personalities”, “Holydays, Culture, Traditions of Moldova”, “Monuments of Moldova”, “Red Book of the Republic of Moldova”, etc.

The new commemorative coin is from silver and weighs 31.1 grams. Its face value is 100 lei and will be issued in a circulation of 500 copies. Selling it to numismatists and other individuals interested to purchase will be made through licensed banks. Thus, the latest will determine independently the price, in an amount of up to 3 percent more than the one set by the National Bank of Moldova.

National Bank intends to supplement this year the “Historical events” series with the following coins: “20 years of proclamation of independence of the Republic of Moldova”and “575 since the first record of Chisinau city”. Moreover, five more coins from other series will be issued by the end of this year.
