New Lithuanian coin Vilnius Upper Castle

The Bank of Lithuania issued into circulation the 50 litas collectors silver coin dedicated to Vilnius Upper Castle on 28th of September 2011. Coin issued under coin series.

The 50 litas coin dedicated to Biržai Castle has been struck from silver Ag 925, quality proof (mirror surface, mat relief), diameter 38.61 mm, weight 28.28 g. The words on the edge of the coin: ISTORIJOS IR ARCHITEKTUROS PAMINKLAI (HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL MONUMENTS). The author of the coin's graphic design and plaster model is . The mintage of the coin is 5.000 pieces. The coins were minted at the UAB Lithuanian Mint.
 

Obverse: The centre of the obverse of the coin features the national emblem depicted on a shield. At the top, the national emblem is semi-circled by the inscription LIETUVA (Lithuania), while the inscription of the year 2011 runs on both sides of the emblem. Below the national emblem, an element of the brick wall of the Castle, with the inscription 50 LITŲ (50 litas) below it, is depicted.

Reverse: The reverse of the coin features a stylised Vilnius Upper Castle in the background of the city. It is semi-circled at the top by the inscription VILNIAUS AUKŠTUTINĖ PILIS (Vilnius Upper Castle).
