Series of 5 coins dedicated to 150th anniversary of Abay Kunanbayev, issued in 1995. Abay Kunanbayev is considered to be the initiator of new Kazakh literature. Great thinker, incomparable master of words, composer, ardent educator, he was a genius of his time, an outstanding personality in the social life and literature of Kazakhstan in the last century. His literary heritage is the national pride of Kazakh nation. It comprises the culture of contemporaries as its integral part.

Obverse: 
On the face of the coin called "Wisdom" there is an imprint of aksakal near the yurt. The image of an old man shows the greatness, spirituality, quiet wisdom of the old age, the wisdom of people. This image was mostly dear to the heart of the poet. In the lower part of the coin there is a 100 figure showing the denomination. Along the circumference, inside the relief bolster there are "ТЕҢГЕ", "1995", "ҚАЗАҚСТАН" legends divided by a decorative element. Along the circumference there is a beady thin rim and outstanding edging.
Reverse: 
On the central part of the coin there is a portrait of Abay in profile. To the left and to the right of the portrait there are figures indicating the years of his life - "1845 - 1904". In the upper part of the coin along the radius there is a legend "АБАЙ. ИБРАhИМ. ҚҰНАНБАЙҰЛЫ". In the lower part there is a multi-figured composition based on the motives of Abay's works.
