Pomegranate

This “Pomegranate” gold collector coin, has been issued by the Central Bank of Armenia, continues the thematic series of coins dedicated to Armenian Flora and Fauna.Pomegranate is the largest berry. In Armenia, it is cultivated in Syunik and Tavoush provinces. Pomegranate symbolizes fertility, abundance, generosity. The “crown” on top symbolizes power, and many seeds in chambers - the planets and stars. Pomegranate has been broadly used in Armenian architecture, applied art and miniature. Images of pomegranate and grape sequencing each other decorate cornices and ledges of Armenian churches.

Obverse: 
In the central part of the coin the coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia. Below the coat of arms the year of issue – 2011, and the face value – 500 Dram, transcribed in the Armenian language. Along the rim, in the upper part of the coin, a semi-circular inscription in Armenian: Republic of Armenia; at the bottom the name of the issuing authority in English.
Reverse: 
In the central part the image of a pomegranate. Above it semi-circular inscriptions with the name of the fruit in Armenian and Latin, PUNICA GRANATUM. Around it, along the rim of the coin, a floral ornament.
