Alken Margulan

Date of issue: 15 December 2004. Edge: 10 sectors of corrugation. Academician Alken Margulan was initiator on research study of steppe civilisation, archaeological science of Kazakhstan. His name ranks with outstanding archaeologists and ethnographers of the world. Thу scientist made inestimable contribution to the development of humanitarian science about Kazakhstan and to the study of distinctive culture and Weltanschauung of Kazakh people. UNESCO decided to announce the year 2004 as the Year of Margulan.

Obverse: 
On the face of the coin (averse), on its upper side the state emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan is located and under it there is a two-line inscription "50 ТЕҢГЕ". From the right and left side of the denomination there is the element of national ornament. On the circumference there is the legend "ҚАЗАҚСТАН YЛТТЫҚ БАНКI" (National Bank of Kazakhstan).
Reverse: 
On the back side of the coin, on its central part there is a portrait of academician Alken Margulan. From the left side the portrait is framed along the circle with inscriptions "Ә. МАРҒҰЛАН", "100 ЖЫЛ" and conventionalized images of rock paintings. The figure "2004" indicates the year of coinage.
