The National Bank of Belarus on May 1ųth, 2012 puts into circulation new silver commemorative coins “the Solar System".
The collection features colorful depictions of the Earth (Terra), Mercury (Mercurius), Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn (Saturnus), Uranus, Neptunus (Neptune) and a gold plated image of the Sun (Sol). All coins of the series have common obverse, showing the antique Roman sculpture of Atlas bearing the spheres of the heavens. The coins were struck by the Mint of Poland with an attractive mintage up to 11,111 pieces.
The coins are legal tender in the Republic of Belarus.
In the central part of the obverse of the coin there is an image of the antique sculpture of Atlas bearing the spheres of the heavens, in the background: a fragment of the Solar System. At the bottom - a semi-circular inscription in Latin: SYSTEMA SOLARE.
In the central part of the reverse of each coin there is an image of a Solar System planet made using the pad printing method. In the background - fragments of the map of the heavens dating back to the 16th century showing the Solar System. Underneath the image of each planet - its name in Latin and the astronomical symbol.
Face value of the coins is 10 rubles, purity 925, weight 10 g, diameter 32 mm, proof quality.
