The coin is dedicated to the region called "the eastern gate" of Ukraine, which is home to hard-working people who love their land. This region has half of Ukraine's coal reserves, fertile black soil and endless steppes.
Luhansk oblast has a long history to dating back to dating back to the Paleolithic era. In the Bronze Age this territory was inhabited by the pastoral and agricultural tribes that left behind numerous burial mounds. Later, the Cimmerians, Scythians and Sarmatians and Turkic tribes settled in the region. After the Mongol invasion, the territory was barely populated and was called "The Wild Field". The new settlements in the region began to spring up in the 17th century after the national liberation war led by Bohdan Khmelnytsky had ended. Over the past 100 years, Luhansk Oblast has turned into a region with well-developed mining, production and trading infrastructure. Today it is a large industrial region.
