New Ukrainian coin 100 Years of the Kyiv Research Institute of Forensic Expertise

On 3 July 2013, the National Bank of Ukraine put into circulation the commemorative coin “100 Years of the Kyiv Research Institute of Forensic Expertise" of 5 hryvnia face value devoted to one of the oldest public expert institutions of Ukraine, which was founded in 1913 as the Office for Forensic Science attached to Prosecutor of Kyiv Court Chamber. After following a difficult path, the Institute became one of the leading centres of the forensic investigation, which employs highly qualified forensic experts.

The coin was fabricated with making use of sophisticated bi-metal technology: outer circle – cupronickel alloy, inner circle – nordic (CuAl5Zn5Sn1), quality – “special uncirculated”, diameter – 28.0 mm, weight – 9.4 g, mintage – 15 000 pieces, The coin edge is intermittently grooved.

Obverse: bears the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine and the semicircular legends НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) above and П’ЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ (five hryvnias) beneath; to the right there is indicated the coin issue year 2013, to the left there is the mark of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint; in the center there is the logo of the institute.

Reverse: there is depicted the institute building, and the legend 100/РОКІВ (100/years) below. There is the circular legend КИЇВСЬКИЙ НАУКОВО-ДОСЛІДНИЙ ІНСТИТУТ СУДОВИХ ЕКСПЕРТИЗ (Kyiv Research Institute of Forensic Expertise).
