The National Bank of Ukraine has put into circulation the commemorative coins “Ukrainian Vyshyvanka” of 10 and 5 hryvnia face value.
The coin of 10 hryvnia face value has been made of silver; quality – “proof”, weight in fineness – 31.1 g, diameter – 38.6 mm, mintage – 5 000 pieces. The coin edge is smooth with in-depth legends: Ag 925 (metal and fineness), 31.1 (weight in fineness), NBU Mint logo.
The coin of 5 hryvnia face value has been made of German silver; quality – “special uncirculated”, weight– 16.54 g, diameter – 35.0 mm, mintage – 30 000 pieces. The coin edge is grooved.
Vyshyvanka is the Ukrainian traditional clothing which contains elements of Ukrainian ethnic embroidery. Many variations of its design were created. Usually, it was made of homemade linen which was produced by loom. Local features are usually represented in the shirt's ornamental pattern.
The art of embroidery in Ukraine traces its roots back to the pre-Christian period, it has centuries-old history. It is proved by results of archaeological dig and travellers' documentary evidence. As a whole, embroidery is dated from the epoch primeval.
The commemorative coins are a legal tender of Ukraine and shall be accepted without any restrictions at their face values for all types of payments as well as for placing to the settlement accounts, on deposits, for letters of credit and transfers.
