New Ukrainian coin Nesterov's Loop

The National Bank of Ukraine has put into circulation 5 hryvnen "Nesterov's Loop" coin on August 28th, 2013.

The commemorative coin is dedicated to the centenary of performance of the loop-the-loop aerobatic maneuver known also as Nesterov`s loop. For the first time the maneuver was performed on August 27, 1913, by Pyotr Nesterov in the sky over Kyiv (Syrets military airfield) before numerous spectators` eyes. The event became de facto the beginning of aerobatics and substantial contribution to the aviation development.

On the obverse there are: the semicircular inscription НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) (above) with the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine to the left; in the centre, against the background of the decorative military map case with the flight plan, Pyotr Nesterov`s portrait and the coin issue year indication 2013 to the right thereof; below - the coin face value 5 ГРИВЕНЬ (5 hryvnias) and the mark of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint.

On the reverse there is depicted a conventionalized composition of performance of the famous loop by Nesterov in a Nieuport monoplane; in the middle thereof - the inscription ПЕТЛЯ/1913/рік/КИЇВ/НЕСТЕРОВА (loop/1913/year/Kyiv/of Nesterov); below there are depicted the spectators as on the 1913 postcards from Kyiv.

The coin of 5 hryvnia face value has been made of German silver; quality – “special uncirculated”, weight– 16.54 g, diameter – 35.0 mm, mintage – 30 000 pieces. The coin edge is grooved.

The commemorative coins are a legal tender of Ukraine and shall be accepted without any restrictions at their face values for all types of payments as well as for placing to the settlement accounts, on deposits, for letters of credit and transfers.
