New Ukrainian coin 75 Years of the Sumy Oblast

On January 9th 2014, the National Bank of Ukraine put into circulation the commemorative coin “75 Years of the Sumy Oblast” 5 hryvnia face value, which continues the “Oblasts of Ukraine” series.

The coin is dedicated to an agro-industrial region situated in the north-eastern part of Left-Bank Ukraine. Sumshchyna is a natural treasury of interminable meadows, clear waters and abundant forests, a land of glorious history and Cossack traditions.

The coin was fabricated with making use of sophisticated bi-metal technology: outer circle – cupronickel alloy, inner circle – nordic (CuAl5Zn5Sn1), quality – “special uncirculated”, diameter – 28.0 mm, weight – 9.4 g, mintage – 20 000 pieces, edge – set of grooves.

Obverse: bears the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine (above) with the semicircular inscriptions НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) above and П`ЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ (five hryvnias) beneath; to the right there is the mark of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint; in the center there are depicted the Saviour`s Transfiguration Cathedral, Sumy Pavilion, sabre and powder horn, grain ears; to the right there is the coin issue year indication 2014.
 
Reverse: bears the Oblast coat of arms with the semicircular inscriptions: СУМСЬКА ОБЛАСТЬ (Sumy Oblast) above and ЗАСНОВАНА У 1939 РОЦІ (established in 1939 year) below.
