New Ukrainian coin 75 Years of the Kirovohrad Oblast

On January 9th 2014, the National Bank of Ukraine put into circulation the commemorative coin “75 Years of the Kirovohrad Oblast” 5 hryvnia face value, which continues the “Oblasts of Ukraine” series.

The “75 Years of the Kirovohrad Oblast” of 5 hryvnia face value is dedicated to an agro-industrial region, which is rich in chernozem (black earth) fields and situated between the Dnieper and Southern Buh rivers, in the center of Ukraine. This land is rich in mineral resources. The region's potential in mineral raw materials numbers more than 340 mineral deposits.

The coin was fabricated with making use of sophisticated bi-metal technology: outer circle – cupronickel alloy, inner circle – nordic (CuAl5Zn5Sn1), quality – “special uncirculated”, diameter – 28.0 mm, weight – 9.4 g, mintage – 20 000 pieces, edge – set of grooves.

Obverse: bears the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine (above) with the semicircular inscriptions НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) above and П`ЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ (five hryvnias) beneath; to the right there is the mark of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint; in the center there are depicted M.L.Kropyvnytskyi Kirovohrad Academic Ukrainian Theatre of Music and Drama (the theatre of coryphaei) with the coin issue year indication 2014 thereunder, V.G.Shukhov hyperboloid structure tower, Atoms for Peace symbol, seed drill, grain ears and sunflower.
 
Reverse: bears the Oblast coat of arms with the semicircular inscriptions: КІРОВОГРАДСЬКА ОБЛАСТЬ (Kirovohrad Oblast) above and ЗАСНОВАНА У 1939 РОЦІ (established in 1939 year) below.
