On February 7, 2014, the National Bank of Ukraine puts the "Liberation of Nikopol from the Fascist Invaders" commemorative coin of 5 hryvnia face value into circulation. The coin is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of liberation of the city of Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, from the fascist invaders.
“Liberation of Nikopol marked a landmark event in the Great Patriotic War. The courage shown by the soldiers who defended their motherland bravely will never be forgotten by the Ukrainian people. With gratitude and respect, the National Bank of Ukraine commemorates their heroic deeds by issuing the commemorative coin,” noted Director of General Department for Regulation of Cash Circulation Viktor Nesterenko.
He said that in 2013 the National Bank of Ukraine started minting the commemorative coins devoted to the liberation of Ukraine from the fascist invaders. “In particular, besides the “Liberation of Nikopol from the Fascist Invaders” coin, which has entered into circulation today, the National Bank of Ukraine has already released the following commemorative coins: “Liberation of Kharkiv from the Fascist Invaders”, “Liberation of Donbas from the Fascist Invaders”, “Breakthrough of the German Defensive Line Wotan by the Soviet Army and Liberation of Melitopol”, “Battle of the Dnieper (on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of liberation of Kyiv from the fascist invaders)”. This year, the National Bank of Ukraine is to strike two new commemorative coins dedicated to the events of the Great Patriotic War – “Korsun-Shevchenkovsky Offensive” (on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of liberation of Ukraine from the fascist invaders” and “70th Anniversary of Liberation of Ukraine from the Fascist Invaders”. In 2015, the coin devoted to the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War will complete this coin series," said Mr Viktor Nesterenko.
The “Liberation of Nikopol from the Fascist Invaders” of 5 hryvnia face value is made from German silver, quality – “special uncirculated”, mintage –20, 000 pieces. The coin edge is grooved.
The coin has been created by Anatolii Demianenko, Svitlana Dudenko, Sviatoslav Ivanenko, and Volodymyr Atamanchuk.
