New Ukrainian coin 75 Years of the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast

On November 25th 2014, the National Bank of Ukraine put into circulation the commemorative coin “75 Years of the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast” 5 hryvnia face value, which continues the “Oblasts of Ukraine” series.

The coin was fabricated with making use of sophisticated bi-metal technology: outer circle – cupronickel alloy, inner circle – nordic (CuAl5Zn5Sn1), quality – “special uncirculated”, diameter – 28.0 mm, weight – 9.4 g, mintage – 20 000 pieces, edge – set of grooves.

The coin is dedicated to a picturesque region, rich in woods, healing mineral waters, natural resources (fuel and energy, chemical, building materials), with various vegetal and animal life. The Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast is situated on the South-West of Ukraine, at the interface of two large natural regions - the East European Plain and Eastern Carpathians. Just at that spot there are situated the highest point of Ukraine the Mount Hoverla (2061 metres) and the following well-known ski resorts: Yaremche, Mykulychyn, Sheshory, Vorokhta, Yablunytsia.

Obverse: bears the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine (above) with the semicircular inscriptions НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) above and П`ЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ (five hryvnias) beneath; to the right there is the mark of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint; in the center there is the conventionalized composition: the images of a wooden church against the background of the Mount Hoverla, the Pysanka Museum in the city of Kolomyia, oil well pumpjack, coin issue year indication 2014 (in the centre), snowboarder and the edelweiss flower.

Reverse: bears the Oblast coat of arms with the semicircular inscriptions: ІВАНО-ФРАНКІВСЬКА ОБЛАСТЬ (Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast) above and ЗАСНОВАНА У 1939 РОЦІ (established in 1939 year) below.
