New Ukrainian coin 75 Years of the Volyn Oblast

On November 25th 2014, the National Bank of Ukraine put into circulation the commemorative coin “75 Years of the Volyn Oblast” 5 hryvnia face value, which continues the “Oblasts of Ukraine” series.

The coin was fabricated with making use of sophisticated bi-metal technology: outer circle – cupronickel alloy, inner circle – nordic (CuAl5Zn5Sn1), quality – “special uncirculated”, diameter – 28.0 mm, weight – 9.4 g, mintage – 20 000 pieces, edge – set of grooves.

The coin is dedicated to the land of eternal woods and hundreds of heavenly clear streams and lakes including the Lake of Svitiaz, the deepest lake in Ukraine. Volyn is also rich in various mineral resources and raw materials. The Volyn Oblast is situated in the North-West part of Ukraine, within the basin of the Prypiat River tributaries and upper reaches of the Western Bug River, on the important transport crossroads, which is conducive to the development of international relations.

Obverse: bears the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine (above) with the semicircular inscriptions НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) above and П`ЯТЬ ГРИВЕНЬ (five hryvnias) beneath; to the right there is the mark of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint; in the center there is the conventionalized composition: the images of a Lutsk High Castle tower, the Assumption Cathedral in the city of Volodymyr-Volynskyi, an island on the lake of Svitiaz with the coin issue year indication 2014 thereunder, as well as the swan (above) and grain ears with the flax flowers (beneath).

Reverse: bears the Oblast coat of arms with the semicircular inscriptions: ВОЛИНСЬКА ОБЛАСТЬ (Volyn Oblast) above and ЗАСНОВАНА У 1939 РОЦІ (established in 1939 year) below.
