New Ukrainian coin Mykhailo Verbytskyi

On March 4th, 2015, the National Bank of Ukraine put the commemorative coin "Mykhailo Verbytskyi" of 2 hryvnia face value into circulation from  coin series

The coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mykhailo Mykhailovych VERBYTSKYI, a Ukrainian composer, public figure, chorus conductor, priest of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the author of music of the national anthem of Ukraine.

The coin obverse bears: the legend УКРАЇНА (Ukraine) above, the conventionalized composition: against the background of the national flag of Ukraine the anthem lines ЩЕ НЕ ВМЕРЛА УКРАЇНИ/І СЛАВА, І ВОЛЯ,/ЩЕ НАМ, БРАТТЯ/МОЛОДІЇ,/ УСМІХНЕТЬСЯ/ДОЛЯ. (Yet not died (has) of Ukraine / both glory, and freedom / still upon us, brothers / brave, / shall smile / the fate.) with the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine thereunder and images of people singing the anthem to the left and right thereof; the coin face value 2/ГРИВНІ (2/hryvnias) below with the coin issue year indication 2015 to the right and the mark of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint to the left thereof.

Reverse bears Mykhailo Verbytskyi`s portrait with the flower ornament pattern, image of the lyre, to the left of the portrait, and the conventionalized representation of the musical notation thereunder; indication of the years of his life: 1815 (to the left) and 1870 (to the right); the bow-shaped inscription МИХАЙЛО ВЕРБИЦЬКИЙ (Mykhailo Verbytskyi) to the right beneath.

The coin is made from German silver, quality− “special uncirculated”, weight – 12.8 g, diameter – 31.0 mm, mintage – 30,000 pieces. The coin edge is grooved.
