National Bank of Kazakhstan has released "Buran" commemorative nickel silver coin on August 7th 2015 under Space coin series.
Buran was an orbital space plane of the Soviet reusable space transport system, created within the Energy-Buran program. On 15 November 1988 Buran made its first and only space flight, in pilotless mode. This fact - flight of a spacecraft in space and its descent to Earth in automatic mode under control of the on-board computer was included into the Guinness Book of Records. The spaceship started from Baikonur Cosmodrome with the support of the Energy rocket.
Obverse: The composition symbolized the unity of human being with the world and the connection between the past and present; the face value of the coin "50 ТЕҢГЕ"; trade mark of Kazakhstan Mint; two inscriptions "ҚАЗАҚСТАН РЕСПУБЛИКАСЫ" and "REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN".
Reverse: The image of Buran spaceship in a process of entering the Earth orbit and year of coinage «2014»; inscriptions «БУРАН» in state language and «BURAN» in English.
50 tenge nickel silver coin.
Face value: 50 tenge;
Diameter – 31 mm, thickness – 2 mm, weight – 11,17 gram;
Mintage: 100 000 pcs.
