New Ukrainian coins 475th Anniversary of the First Record of the City of Ternopi

The National Bank of Ukraine has put into circulation the commemorative coins “475th Anniversary of the First Record of the City of Ternopil” of 10 and 5 hryvnia face value.

Commemorative coins are dedicated to the picturesque administrative center of the respective oblast, located on the Seret River (Dniester tributary) - Ternopil, first mentioned in the charter of Sigismund I, a King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, provided to Jan Tarnowski for the establishment of the city.

The coin of 10 hryvnia face value has been made of silver; quality – “proof”, weight in fineness – 31.1 g, diameter – 38.6 mm, mintage – 2 000 pieces. The coin edge is smooth with in-depth legends: Ag 925 (metal and fineness), 31.1 (weight in fineness), NBU Mint logo.

The coin of 5 hryvnia face value has been made of German silver; quality – “special uncirculated”, weight– 16.54 g, diameter – 35.0 mm, mintage – 35 000 pieces. The coin edge is grooved.

Obverse: above, against the background of the ornament, there is the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine with the inscription УКРАЇНА (Ukraine) underneath; in the center, against the smooth background, there is a panorama of modern Ternopil with the city`s coat of arms above; below: there is the issue year - 2015 and the semicircular inscription 10 ГРИВЕНЬ (10 hryvnias) or 5 ГРИВЕНЬ (5 hryvnias) on the German silver one. The mark of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine to the right on the 5 German silver coin.

On the reverse: against the smooth background there are the inscriptions ТЕРНОПІЛЬ/ПЕРША ПИСЕМНА ЗГАДКА (Ternopil/the first record) with Jan Tarnowski`s portrait underneath against the background of the conventionalized sealed scroll; to the right of the portrait there is the ancient castle with the inscriptions ЯН ТАРНОВСЬКИЙ/1540 (Jan Tarnowski/1540) - to the right and ТЯRNOPOLIE - to the left.

The commemorative coins are a legal tender of Ukraine and shall be accepted without any restrictions at their face values for all types of payments as well as for placing to the settlement accounts, on deposits, for letters of credit and transfers.
