On 2nd of November 2015, the National Bank of Moldova puts into circulation as legal tender and for numismatic purpose, commemorative coin European pond turtle under Red Book of Republic of Moldova coin series
The European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis), also called the European pond terrapin, is a long-living freshwater species of turtle. It is found in southern and central Europe, West Asia and North Africa. In the early post-glacial period, the pond turtle had a much wider distribution, being found as far north as southern Sweden.
Obverse:
on the central part – the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Moldova; on the upper part – the year of issue „2015”; on the bottom part -the inscription „50 LEI”; following the coin circumference– the inscription „REPUBLICA MOLDOVA” is engraved in block letters.
Reverse:
in the centre centre – image of the European pond turtle on a plant background; on the ring of the coin, the inscriptions "CARTEA ROŞIE", "BROASCA-ŢESTOASĂ-DE-BALTĂ", "EMYS ORBICULARIS" are engraved in block letter.
