New Ukrainian coins St. Nicholas Cathedral (City of Kyiv)

The National Bank of Ukraine has put into circulation the commemorative coins “St. Nicholas Cathedral (City of Kyiv)” of 10 and 5 hryvnia face value.

This coin commemorates St. Nicholas Cathedral. Designed by architect Volovskyi in a Gothic Revival style and built in early 20 century by architect Gorodetsky, the cathedral is Kyiv`s one of the most beautiful architectural monuments.

The coin of 10 hryvnia face value has been made of silver; quality – “proof”, weight in fineness – 31.1 g, diameter – 32 mm, mintage – 3 000 pieces. The coin edge is smooth with in-depth legends: Ag 925 (metal and fineness), 31.1 (weight in fineness), NBU Mint logo.

Obverse: 
To the left is Ukraine`s small coat of arms and the vertical legend УКРАЇНА (Ukraine); in the center is an image of the cathedral`s interior; to the right is the coin face value: 10 ГРИВЕНЬ (10 hryvnias) on the silver coin; below is the coin issue year 2016
 
Reverse: 
There is an image of the cathedral`s building and the following legends: КОСТЬОЛ СВЯТОГО МИКОЛАЯ (St. Nicholas Cathedral) (semicircular above) КИЇВ (Kyiv) (above the building).

 

The coin of 5 hryvnia face value has been made of German silver; quality – “special uncirculated”, weight– 16.54 g, diameter – 35.0 mm, mintage – 30 000 pieces. The coin edge is grooved.

Obverse: 
To the left is Ukraine`s small coat of arms and the vertical legend УКРАЇНА (Ukraine); in the center is an image of the cathedral`s interior; to the right is the coin face value: 5 ГРИВЕНЬ (5 hryvnias) on the German silver coin; below is the coin issue year 2016. On the German silver coin to the right is the mint mark of the NBU Banknote Printing and Minting Works.
 
Reverse: 
There is an image of the cathedral`s building and the following legends: КОСТЬОЛ СВЯТОГО МИКОЛАЯ (St. Nicholas Cathedral) (semicircular above) КИЇВ (Kyiv) (above the building).

The commemorative coins are a legal tender of Ukraine and shall be accepted without any restrictions at their face values for all types of payments as well as for placing to the settlement accounts, on deposits, for letters of credit and transfers.
