As his family moved from Azerbaijan to Baghdad, Mohammed Fizuli was born in Kerbela, near Baghdad.
Fizuli mastered numerous sciences, including Greek and Arab philosophy, astronomy, arithmetics and medical sciences, studied Arabic and Persian besides native Azerbaijani.
As the author of three divans he was the lovely poet of all oriental people in his lifetime. He was the author of thousand of gasides, gezel and rubais, Rindu-Zahid, Sahhati-Maraz, Bangu-Bade, Sohbatul Asmar, Shykayetname and Leyla and Mejnun, which were written in Azerbaijan, Arabic an Persian languages.
Fizuli is the greatest lyrical poet of the Near East. In all his creative work he glorified love and personal freedom and was against social injustice.
Fizuli is a wold famous writer. His poetry widely spread not only in Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iraq, Central Asia, but in Russia and western countries as well. Many of his manuscripts are kept at famous libraries and museums of Europe.
M. Fizuli has always been at the center of world oriental studies. European authors, such as Hammer Purqital, Braun Rio, English orientalists Begli, Aibb, Russian orientalists D. Smirnov, A. Krimski, Y. E. Bertis and others studied his literary genius.
In 1994 was declared the year of Fizuli by UNESCO, various events were held in connection with the anniversary of the poet of genius. Works of this great thinker and poet are translated into world languages nowadays as well.
His creative works are indispensable treasure and great source of word for oriental scientists and researchers.
