European bison (Bison bonasus)

Commemorative coin is dedicated to BISON BONASUS, an almost completely destroyed representative of artiodactyl species in the fauna of Ukraine. Its population is successfully reproduced in Ukraine since 1965. This species is included to the Red Book of Ukraine and to the Red Book of Europe. In circulation since March 31, 2003.

Obverse: 
On the coin obverse within the window frame, formed by depictions of various species of flora and fauna there is the small State Emblem of Ukraine is depicted and the four-line inscription: УКРАЇНА, 2, ГРИВНІ, 2003 and the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine
Reverse: 
On the coin reverse there is a bison depiction, around which there are circular inscriptions: ЗУБР (above) and BISON BONASUS (beneath).
