Coin is dedicated to SPALAX ARENARIUS RESHETNIK, a rare species living only in the territory of Ukraine, which is included to the Red Book of Ukraine and the European Red List of animals and plants under the danger of extermination. In circulation since June 15, 2005.

Obverse: 
On the coins obverse within  framing of images of some species of flora and fauna there is a small State Emblem of Ukraine and a four line inscription: УКРАЇНА, 2 ГРИВНІ, 2005 and the Mint logo of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Reverse: 
On the coins reverse з there is a depiction of the rodent on the background of plants (left) and inscriptions: СЛІПАК ПІЩАНИЙ (above) and SPALAX ARENARIUS RESHETNIK (beneath).
