70th Anniversary of Zaporizhzhia Oblast Creation

The commemorative coin is dedicated to Zaporizhzhia Oblast whose economic potential base is formed by a huge industrial complex and famous fertile chernozems (black soils), a land of rich history, one of the centres of Zaporizhian Cossacks’ formation. Issued into circulation on Decemder 17, 2009.

Obverse: 
On the obverse there is depicted the Coat of Arms of Zaporizhzhia Oblast to the left whereof there is the National Bank of Ukraine Mint logo; also there are: the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine with the semicircular inscription Національний банк України (National Bank of Ukraine) above, ornamental patterns formed by oak leaves, the coin issue year 2009 and face value ДВІ/ГРИВНІ (two/hryvnias) below.
Reverse: 
On the reverse there is a composition: in the foreground, against the background of conventionalized Dnieper’s waves, there are depicted a stone baba (kurhan stele), charactersistic for the steppe part of Ukraine, and a cannon of Zaporizhian Sich epoch; in the background – DniproHES dam; above there is the semicircular inscription ЗАПОРІЗЬКА 1939 ОБЛАСТЬ (Zaporizhzhia 1939 Oblast) and thereunder - ornamental patterns formed by oak leaves.
