This silver commemorative coin depicting Bezoar has been issued by the Central Bank of Armenia under the International Program “Wild World of Caucasus”. The Program includes animals that are protected under the Red Book of Armenia. Bezoar (Capra aegagrus) dwells mainly in the impassable rocky slopes of mountains and tries to avoid smooth mountain ranges and forestry. During the recent years the number of Bezoar within the Armenian part of the whole natural habitat has not exceeded 700 heads. Speedy assimilation of mountainous regions makes Bezoar recede to those parts of the mountains that are useless and difficult for people’s access. For preservation reasons, protection of Bezoar in its dwelling regions has been strengthened and the borders of the Khosrov reserve have been enlarged.
