Belarusian History and Culture. Commemorative coin "The church of Sts Boris and Gleb". The Borisoglebsk Church in Grodno is a pearl of Belarusian culture. It has no immediate analogs in old Russian architecture. In terms of its layout scheme, the monument is close to Greek architectural school. In accordance with the construction tradition, the Church was built on a high bank of the River Nyoman, harmonizing with the landscape and ancient construction system. The building is a six–column three–apsidal temple of the crosswise dome system. The outer walls are decorated with multicolor slip–glazed ceramic crosses and stones. Systematic row of resonating jars (vessels immured in the walls with their open ends coming out) improving acoustics in the temple are located in the walls. Although the temple does not stand in its integrity, it is an extremely interesting and unique monument of Orthodox architecture.
